Purpose of Installation

A fierce battle was held here (April 24, 1951) by the 3 rd Australian Infantry as part of the UN Forces for Korean wellbeing and world peace against the Chinese Army during North Korea ' s invasion. The UN Korean War Allied Forces Association erected a monument in remembrance of this on April 24, 1963 , but it was reconstructed by Gapyeong County on December 27, 1983 .

The Australian monument is established on a land area of 2,116m 2 and the New Zealand monument is established on a land area of 1,653m 2 , and they face each other. The Australian 3 rd Infantry division had a fierce battle with the Chinese Army here on April 24, 1951 . The Monument for the Participation of Australia in the Korean War is erected vertically on a 0.82m stylobate and stands 4.6m tall. It was first established by the UN Korean War Allied Forces Association and Gapyeong County on April 24, 1963 , but it was reconstructed by Gapyeong on December 27, 1983 . A battle map is engraved in a brass plate on the right and on the left side of the monument the history of the war effort is engraved. Australia lost 311 lives and 1,230 were injured, being the greatest lost for Australia since World War 1.
