Purpose of Installation

This was erected by the UN Korean War Allied Forces Association and Gapyeong County on November 7, 1975 in memory of the Canadian Army ' s Gapyeong Battle (April 24~25, 1951) as part of the UN forces in order to protect Korean and world peace during the North Korean ' s invasion. It was reconstructed by Gapyeong County on December 30, 1983 .

Information

The Monument for the Participation of Canada in the Korean War is on the roadside at Igok-ri, Bukmyeon. A 6.5, high stands upon a 0.7m tall stylobate in an area that spans across 1,653m 2 and an inscription is engraved at the center of the stylobate. On the right is a history on their war effort, while a symbolic tower is erected on the left. This was erected by the UN Korean War Allied Forces Association and Gapyeong County on November 7, 1975 in memory of the Canadian Army ' s Gapyeong Battle (April 24~25, 1951) as part of the UN forces in order to protect Korean and world peace during the North Korean ' s invasion. It was reconstructed by Gapyeong County on December 30, 1983 . The memorial monument on the right of the entrance was built in commemoration of the 50 th year anniversary by Canada on July 29, 2003 . During the Korean War, Canada suffered 309 KIA, 1,203 injured and 32 MIA. This was the highest lost since the 1 st World War.
